Thursdays 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

This course will explore the patterns and grooves of Brazilian and Latin music as a whole.
For Brazilian music, we will learn about the two main rhythms: Bossa Nova and Samba. We will learn the difference between both by playing tunes of the traditional repertoire and learning every part of the groove. The focus will be on the rhythmic and harmonic vocabulary of these genres, and the goal is to learn how to play basic grooves and common variations within the rhythmic section instruments (bass, guitar, drums/percussion, vocals, and piano).
For Latin music, we will learn about the two main rhythms of Latin music: Bolero and Afro-Cuban rhythms (Son, Cha-cha, Danzon). We will learn the difference between them by playing tunes of the traditional repertoire and learning every part of the groove. The focus will be on the rhythmic and harmonic vocabulary of these genres, and the goal is to learn how to play basic grooves and common variations within the rhythmic section instruments (Bass, guitar, drums/percussion, vocals, and piano).
