Music Makers Premier Adult Band Ensemble Program will enhance your understanding of how a band works.  We’ll break down the songs in detail, stretch out, learn beginnings & endings, refine solos, rhythms, patterns & leads.  You’ll gain control over sound and technique, go over individual parts & combine them to create a better band sound.  Learn different ways to approach a song while gaining confidence as a player.  Play & learn from an advanced level instructor.  Each participant receives access to our student portal where you'll be able to access all class materials.

Not seeing the workshop of your dreams offered? Do you see an advertised workshop and like the rehearsal schedule and Musical Director but not the theme? Music Makers offers Semi Custom & Custom Workshops. Here's how it works: You have 3 band members (required), a theme in mind, a day and time you'd like to rehearse and a Musical Director you'd like to work with. We'll post your semi custom workshop to our website and advertise to fill the remaining slots. All 3 semi custom band members would need to complete registration. Here's what's included: 16 hours of rehearsal in a premium Music Makers studio, one of our fantastic Musical Directors, a Friday night gig at The Bitter End, full backline, tech at the show and 2 FREE tickets per person to the performance. MM takes care of everything. If you have 5 band members willing to register at the same time, it's a done deal, no further advertising for additional band members required.

Know the basics of swinging but still want to explore deeper the richness of Jazz? This course is perfect for getting a deeper approach into the main elements of Jazz. We will be exploring areas such as: Jazz scales, minor and major Blues, rhythm and changes ("I got Rhythm"), Jazz chords, new ways of comping in a swing situation and a better understanding of the improvisation process: learning how to fit each chord in your soloing. If you have already played Jazz and want to keep expanding your knowledge in this genre, this is a great opportunity for you! Musical Director Baden Goyo

Join this hot summer workshop and get to explore techniques, chord sequences, and rhythmic patterns to achieve an authentic blues-y feel using your instrument or voice! Vocalists, you will learn how to explore your vocal range and use different tone qualities commonly featured in blues. Bassists, will learn great patterns to groove within the blues structure and different time feelings such as playing behind the beat, shuffle or swing feel. Guitarists will develop a loose wrist to improve rhythm chops, i.e. when to mute, chicken scratch, or to sweep chords, how to use guitar, amp, and effect combos for different sections. Drummers, will learn how to develop a solid time feeling, when to play fills and how to use your instrument with dynamics and musicality. Keyboard players, let's explore how to play and switch between organ, piano and Rhodes, and we will also expand your chord voicings. Come join us and have fun in this workshop! Musical Director Baden Goyo

We’re rocking the 80’s! Join us in playing tunes from Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Blondie, Talking Heads, Cars, Pretenders, Police, Clash, INXS & more! In addition to your Musical Director selecting a few songs for the first rehearsal, we encourage every band member to bring two song suggestions to the first session as well! Your Musical Director will always take your suggestions into consideration. After the first rehearsal, your Musical Director will build the set list based on what songs will highlight the band's talents Musical Director Baden Goyo
Wednesdays 6:00 - 8:00
6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11, 7/18
In this 6-week workshop, we will boost your playing level and music understanding by exploring the different roles you can play in a band! This is especially valuable for guitar players who usually have to share with other guitars in the same group. You will learn the different parts/roles guitars can play in tunes (lead guitar, rhythmic guitar, soloist and bass lines as well!) and you will get to explore these different parts and switch roles within the band. This is a perfect opportunity to become a more versatile guitar player and also to explore playing the bass as the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the band!
Musical Director: Sergio Ortega

We ask all workshop participants to please make every effort to attend all rehearsals.  If you're unable to attend any rehearsals, you are required to notify Music Makers NY via email musicmakersnewyork@gmail.com at least 48 hours in advance.  When registering, should you have a conflict with a rehearsal date, please make Music Makers aware of the conflict.  Not attending more than 2 rehearsals within an 6 or 8-week performance program can greatly affect the band as a whole.

Instrumentalists are guaranteed a slot for their particular instrument, not a vocal slot as well.
