Workshops are a unique opportunity to work with an experienced instructor in our professionally equipped rehearsal studios. Our Band Development Workshops (non-performance) and Performance Workshops will give you the skills needed to become a better musician. If you want to take your playing to the next level & join a band where all the organizing is done for you, then our workshops can help! The weeknight Band Development Workshops are a great alternative if you can't make it to the Saturday night jams. Contact The Studio at music@thestudio.org or call 212-967-6124. Wednesday Blues w/John Putnam

Want to delve into the blues repertoire without the pressure of performing? Can’t make it to the Saturday jams? Join this 4 week exploration of the blues while developing dynamics, phrasing & ensemble playing. Suggested tunes include Ask me No Questions/BB & Albert King, Driving Wheel/Roosevelt Sykes, Look-ka Py Py/Meters, Little Girl/John Mayall, Saint James Infirmary/traditional, The Thrill Is Gone/BB King, Twenty Nine Ways, Koko Taylor, Yu Got Me Running/Jimmy Reed. Coordinator open to song selections.

Rehearsals: Wednesdays 11/13, 11/20, 12/4 & 12/11 (6:30-8:30)

Cost: Members $219.00+tax; Non-Members $299.00+tax

Openings For: Vocals (male/female), 1 guitar, keys, drums, harp, horn (1 guitar & bass filled)

 

Traveling Blues w/Jon Glicksman (Intermediate)

What do Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, Kansas City, Texas, Georgia & NY have in common? They all have a unique "take" on the Blues. Take a trip around the U.S.A. cover the likes ofElmore James and The Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray and Johny Winter, Buddy Guy, Paul Butterfield, Dr. John, Papa Chubby and the Thre Kings..Albert, Freddie, B.B.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays 11/19 & 11/26 (8:00-10:00); Wed. 12/4 & 12/11 (8:00-11:00)

Cost: Members $299.00+tax; Non-Members $399.00+tax

Performance: Friday, December 13 @ The Bitter End

 

Let’s Play Some Funkin Music w/John Putnam (Intermediate/Advanced)

Love to show the world that the Studio has some funk in us. We couldn’t possibly do all of these tunes but we’ll work on songs from this list or from your suggestions. Brick House/Commodores, Give Up The Funk/Parliments, Low Rider/War, Pap’s Got A Brand New Bag/James Brown, CissyStrut/Meters; Papa Was A Rollin’Stone/Temptations, Kiss/Prince, It’s Your Thing/Isley Brothers, Mr. Big Stuff, Jean Knight, Pick Up The Pieces, Average White Band, Use Me/Bill Withers

Rehearsals: Thursdays 11/14 & 11/21 (6:30-8:30), 12/5 & 12/12 (6:30-9:30)

Keep It Classic w/Rob Watson (Beginner/Intermediate)

Flexibility is the key to this workshop band. At the first session the coordinator will help the band find the songs from such artists as the Beatles, Stones, Springsteen, Tom Petty, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, Deep Purple, Creedence, Elvis, Doors, Elivs Costello, Ramones, Rascals, Quiet Riot, Sheryl Crow, Sam & Dave, Sammy Hagar & One Hit Wonders

Rehearsals: Mondays: 11/18 (6:30-9:30), 11/25, 12/2 & 12/9 (6:30-8:30), 12/11 (6:30-9:30)

Cost: Members: $359.00+tax, Non-Members $459.00+tax

Openings For: 1 Vocal (male/female), 1 guitar, bass, keys, drums, harp, horns (2 guitar & 1 vocal slot filled)

Performance: Friday, December 13 @ The Bitter End

 

WORKSHOP TERMS & CONDITIONS

Participants are required to attend all rehearsals for the designated time. If conflicts arise, arrangements must be made in advance with the coordinator & The Studio. If The Studio must find a replacement player for a missed rehearsal all fees incurred by The Studio will be charged to the particpant's credit card.

Cancellation Policy: Once credit card information is provided to The Studio & The Studio confirms your slot, fees are non-refundable unless a replacement can be found. A pro-rated Studio credit will be issued minus a $50.00 administrative fee.

Instrumentalists are only guaranteed a slot for their particular instrument, not lead vocals as well.

Performance Workshops: When signing on for the workshop you have an obligation, as part of the workshop band, to provide guests at the venue. We have a business obligation to our venues & this is why we're able to book shows on a FRIDAY evening. Each workshop band is required to bring a minimum of 25 guests. There is no Guest List at the venue.

Signing on for the program (securing your slot & providing credit card information to The Studio) means you agree to all of the above terms & conditions
